Position your sliding foot flat on the ice and parallel to the front of the hack foot. More on the amount of stagger that is desirable is described in the video.
Depending on your body type, you may need your sliding foot to be more behind or more in front of your hack foot. The main aspect here that you want to focus on is that your body weight is evenly distributed on both feet and that you are comfortable so that your hips remain square and both legs can be used to elevate your hips. You’ll also want to make sure that your sliding foot is parallel to the hack foot. You don’t want your foot to be pointing inward or outward for example.
